In going mainstream, hip hop and the industry that grew around it began to take on more marketable pop sensibilities. Yet even as social consciousness recedes back into the underground, the culture and it’s four elements continue to resonate with those around the world facing inequality and persecution.

In the upcoming documentary BOUNCING CATS we get a glimpse into modern day Uganda where decades of war, disease and poverty have made it one of the worst places on Earth to be a child. It follows the story of Abraham “Abramz” Tekya, a Ugandan b-boy and A.I.D.S. orphan, who is working to create a better life for the children of his homeland through the transformative power of hip hop culture. As the founder of Breakdance Project Uganda he has created a network of b-boy classes and workshops throughout the country which provide hope and creative outlets for the country’s youth. The film features narration by Common and interviews with Mos Def, Will.I.Am, and K’Naan among many others.
Bouncing Cats was produced by Red Bull Media House and directed by first-time filmmaker Nabil Elderkin. All proceeds from the film will go to Breakdance Project Uganda.

On FRIDAY AUGUST 6TH, REDBULL and the FOUTH WALL PROJECT will host a FREE screening of the film followed by discussion and analysis by some very special guests.

Founder of the world famous Rock Steady Crew CRAZY LEGS will be in attendance to take part in a question and answer session moderated by hip hop journalist CHRIS FARAONE of The Boston Phoenix. From founding Rock Steady in 1979 to his current work supporting Breakdance Project Uganda he has embodied hip hop for over 30 years and will be giving his insight on the culture’s past, present and future.

He will be joined by local b-boy legends the FLOORLORDS who will be on hand to show their moves as they warm up for the United Styles 6 International Poppin Battles 1 on 1 Competition later in the night.

Doors are at 5:30 with the film starting promptly at 6 so show up early as space is limited.

As a founder NYC’s legendary Rock Steady Crew, Crazy Legs is one of most influential b-boys of all time. You may recognize him from the cult classics Wild Style and Style Wars. He also gave Europe one of it’s first tastes of Hip Hop culture performing along side Africa Bambaataa and Fab 5 Freddie on 1983′s New York City Rap Tour.
For over 30 years his commitment to the culture has never wavered and he continues to bring the positive message of hip hop to the next generation of b-boys and b-girls to this day.

Boston’s own B-boy legends THE FLOORLORDS have been together since 1982 and have made their own mark on the formation of b-boy culture. They have toured the world competing and doing demonstrations while amassing quite a healthy collection of trophies along the way. In 2008 they were honored by Saucony with own line of custom shoes.
